The Highly Guarded Travel Secret

When traveling it has been my privilege to see some of the most historical and culturally rich locales the world has to offer. The Great Pyramids. The Roman Colosseum. The Grecian Parthenon. It is easy to be taken aback by the magnificent treasures history has left for us to enjoy but today I want to encourage a tourist stop recommendation always worth a visit.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The unnamed soldier, airmen, sailor, or Marine who offered the sacrifice of their life for their country are honored by this monument. These monuments can be found in most nations and are highly guarded. In Arlington, the position of Tomb Guard is considered one of the highest honors. The selection is rare and the qualification, daunting.

This seems to be the case across the world. We were able to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Athens, Greece. The guards, or Evzones, must be 6’1.2″ to hold the distinguishable honor of guarding the tomb.

The next time you travel abroad, or even if your itinerary has you headed to our own nation’s capital, I encourage you to add a visit to the somber memorial. You will be reminded of the price for freedom and be amazed at the ceremonial display of respect shown for these lost heroes.
